The Stages of Blowing Off A Plan in LA
By Richard Rushfield
Visitors from the East have a difficult time understanding our Western concepts of plans. Back in their world of tall office buildings and people in power suits swallowing hot dogs whole while they bark into their cell phones crossing avenues against traffic, plans take on a very literal and one might say very grim meaning. When a New Yorker says, I will meet you at Starbucks at 7:15 PM, they mean they will meet you on that exact spot at exactly 7:15 PM.
Lost in that grim order is any room for artistic interpretation of the plan or personal expression.
